A Free Estimate Generator That Is Actually Free
No account, no credit card, no 14-day clock, no cap on how many estimates you make. Here is exactly what you get and the one thing the free version adds.
What "free" means here
Search for a free estimate generator and you will find plenty of tools that are free right up to the download button. Then comes the account form, the "start your 14-day trial", or a notice that you have used your three free documents for the month. Those are trials and lead magnets, not free tools.
MakeMyEstimate draws the line differently:
- No account. You do not create a login to make or download an estimate.
- No trial. Nothing expires. The tool works the same next year as today.
- No cap. There is no monthly allowance of estimates to run through.
- No email gate. We do not ask for an address in exchange for the PDF.
- No card on file. You are never asked for payment details to use the free version.
The one catch, stated plainly
Free PDFs carry a watermark, and we would rather you hear exactly what it is than find out after downloading. The words "Made free at makemyestimate.com" run diagonally across the middle of each page in pale grey, at low opacity, behind your content. The same line appears in small type in the footer. It does not hide a single number, and it changes nothing else about the estimate: same line items, same tax math, same layout.
That watermark is how a free tool pays for itself. Some of the people who receive an estimate made here run businesses that send estimates too. If it bothers you, Pro removes it, lets you put your own logo in the header, and saves your business details between estimates, for $9 a month or $19 once. Plenty of businesses never upgrade, and that is fine.
What you get without paying
The free version is the full estimate maker, not a trimmed-down one.
- A live preview that shows the finished page while you type
- Unlimited line items with quantities and unit prices
- Automatic subtotal, flat discount, sales tax and total
- Six currencies: USD, CAD, EUR, GBP, AUD and INR
- A notes and terms box for deposit, payment timing, exclusions and validity
- An estimate number, date and valid-until date on every document
- A clean, printable PDF that opens on any phone or computer
How it compares to other free options
A Word or Google Docs template. Free, but you do the math yourself, and the formatting tends to break the moment a description runs to two lines. One missed update to a quantity and the total is wrong in front of the client.
A spreadsheet. The math is right, but a spreadsheet exported to PDF rarely looks like something you would hand a homeowner, and it is awkward to edit on a phone.
Free tiers of invoicing apps. Often good software, but built around an account, a client database and an upgrade path. Fine if you want all of that; heavy if you just need one estimate out the door tonight.
A text message. Fastest of all, and the hardest to stand behind when the client remembers a different number.
When the free version is enough
If you send a handful of estimates a month, work under your own name, or are still figuring out your pricing, the free version covers everything. The upgrade matters most when your brand is part of the sale: a remodeler competing on polish, a photographer whose logo is on every gallery, or a cleaning company with a fleet of branded vans. Even then, you can start free and decide later without redoing anything.
A quick check before you download
Free or not, the estimate is only as good as what is on it. Before you send it, read it once as the client would. Is the service address there, not just the billing address? Does every line say what is being done, not just "labor"? Is the tax rate the one for the job site? Is the valid-until date set? Would a stranger understand what is excluded? Two minutes of checking saves a phone call later.
Why no signup at all
An estimate is often written in a truck between jobs or at a kitchen table the night after a walkthrough. Every extra screen between you and the PDF is a reason to send a rough number by text instead. So the form loads, you fill it in, and the file downloads. That is the whole flow.

Use cases
Frequently asked questions
Yes. You can create and download unlimited estimates without an account, a trial or a credit card. Free PDFs carry a light makemyestimate.com watermark, which is the main difference from the paid version.
No. The form works the moment the page loads, and you download the PDF directly. There is no email address to enter before or after.
There is no limit. Make one estimate a month or thirty a week; the free version does not count them or lock you out after a number.
The watermark is pale grey text set behind the content, so every price and term stays readable. Most clients focus on the line items and the total, and an itemized PDF with a faint credit still looks more professional than a price sent by text.
Yes. The estimates are for real jobs with real clients, commercial or residential. There is no "personal use only" restriction on the free version.
They stay exactly as they were, because a downloaded PDF is a file on your device. Estimates you create after upgrading come out without the watermark and can carry your logo.
