Free receipt templates for money you actually received.

Pick the kind of payment. Fill it in online and download a PDF, or take the Word, Excel or PDF file and fill it in your own way.

  • Rent receipt

Landlords and roommates: tenant, property, rent period, amount in words.

  • Cash receipt

Proof of a cash payment, signed by whoever took the money.

  • Payment receipt

Contractors and freelancers: what was paid for, the method, any balance due.

  • Deposit receipt

A down payment on a job: what it holds and whether it is refundable.

  • Sales receipt

Market stalls, garage sales and small sellers taking payment in person.

  • Security deposit receipt

A move-in deposit, what lease it secures and how it comes back.

  • Donation receipt

  • Childcare receipt

Babysitters, nannies and daycares: weeks of care and the provider’s tax ID.

What we don’t make: Copies of a real store’s receipt, or pay stubs. Every template here records a payment between you and the person who paid you.

Fill online or download?

Filling online is faster when you write receipts one at a time: totals add up as you type, the payment method and reference print in the header, and a receipt paid in full gets a dated PAID stamp. Download a file when you want to keep your own copy to edit, print a stack to fill by hand, or work in Google Docs or Sheets. The Excel file adds up the lines for you.

What every receipt should have

Whatever the type, a receipt needs the name of whoever was paid, the payer’s name, a receipt number, the date paid, what it was for, the amount, how it was paid and a signature. Number receipts in order and never reuse a number, so a missing one stands out.

How to use

Three things, then download

Your business name, the client and the line items are all a PDF needs. Tax, dates and terms are there when you want them.

  1. 01

    Pick the kind of payment

Rent, cash, a job payment, a deposit, a sale, a security deposit, a donation or childcare. Each template starts with an example line.

  2. 02

    Fill online or download

Fill online for automatic totals and a PAID stamp, or download Word to edit text, Excel for formulas, or PDF to fill by hand.

  3. 03

    Add the payment details

Who paid, the date, how they paid and the check number or reference.

  4. 04

    Sign and hand it over

A signed receipt is the payer’s proof. Keep a copy or the stub for your own records.
